Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a support service to the CE to assist in meeting the strategic goals of department.
  • Control the Maintenance Request System by assigning works to specific trades, supervises proper completion of assigned works and compiles daily work order statistics.
  • Maintain records relating to utility costs throughout the hotel
  • Perform general and emergency repairs and maintenance to all plant and equipment based on skill and experience level.
  • Carry out regular inspections of plant and equipment and ensure that inspections required by Government authorities are conducted and documented.
  • Carry out general room repairs, preventative maintenance inspections and repairs including scheduling of all these works as per computerized system
  • Perform and assist with the Fire Protection Preventative Maintenance Program ensuring all items are inspected as per weekly schedule.
  • Review daily logbook, rectify or follow up on all items left unsolved from any previous shifts, discuss the same with the Chief Engineer / Maintenance Officer.
  • Ensure Fire and Engineering safety features operate at peak efficiency.
  • Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment for the hotel.
  • Ensure proper measures are taken to protect the environment and the Hotel’s adherence to it.
  • Monitor energy and water management systems to minimize wastage and costs using daily / weekly utility readings as a reference point.
  • Supervise the daily operation and maintenance of building, electrical and mechanical service, water features, fixtures, furnishings and equipment. 
  • Liaise and supervise all Property Maintenance Contractors on site and ensure appropriate standards are met.
  • Maintain all workshop tools and equipment for the running of workshop’s trades and functions. 
  • Ensure the workshops have adequate stock and materials in Stores and that all workshops are kept in a clean and safe environment.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Ensure that all associates comply with the grooming and uniform standards.
  • Implement and maintain training systems to ensure that associates have the necessary framework and skills to perform their job efficiently and effectively. This includes certification of all engineering associates. 
  • Prepare work schedules.
  • Conduct regular staff briefing to keep all associates are fully informed.
  • Ensure compliance with legislated workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Comply with all IHG Standards and Procedures.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all plant / mechanical equipment rooms.
  • Ensure all the requests for maintenance are carried out within an acceptable time frame.
  • Assist all Engineering associates with maintenance and repairs when required. 
  • Encourage multi skill of the engineering associates thereby improving productivity and team diversity.
  • Liaise with engineering associates in their daily activities and assigned projects as directed by the Chief Engineer / Maintenance Officer
  • Responsibility for follow up on all assigned task to Engineering associates to ensure the works have been completed in a reasonable time frame and to a standard pertaining to the complex and as set by the Engineering Department.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Chief Engineer

QUALIFICATION STANDARD

  • Required experience in M&E work or any related M&E related qualification.
  • Building maintenance work.
  • Hotel  Engineering background will be advantage 
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills.
  • Sound understanding of preventive maintenance.
  • Financial acuity – the control of expenses/costs.
  • Strong Communication Skills – must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace, ensuring good information flow.
  • Legislation knowledge (building codes, fire safety and country standards)
  • Sound information system knowledge.
  • Team player.
  • Attention to detail and quality.
