What is the job?

The Master 24 role is that of our “Skipper” and is a skilled and experienced individual that will lead our fishing charters and snorkelling tours, as well as assist the Assistant Manager Water Sports in the day-to-day operations of our high-end Watersports Activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences, a thorough understanding of maritime protocols, and the ability to lead a team in ensuring smooth and enjoyable tours for our discerning clientele.

 

Your day to day

  • Operation of commercial vessels ranging from 4- 24m, including holding the relevant licenses under AMSA guidelines, and in compliance with other relevant permits, certificates and local regulations. 
  • Provide support to the Assistant Water Spots Manager in ensuring all vessels are well maintained, including liaising with internal engineering department and external contractors to arrange repairs & servicing.
  • Take ownership over overall upkeep, maintenance, and legislative requirements of Fishing Vessel Sun Aura II as the main master of the vessel. Keep water sports assistant manager up to date with any deficiencies or required works or tasks.
  • Complete daily vessel pre-start checklists, and keep record of these, reporting any deficiencies to water sports assistant manager
  • Maintain vessel log books, ensuring accuracy and that entries are current, complete and unaltered.
  • Arrange and participate in monthly drills, ensuing record is kept of these.
  • Be punctual, efficient and helpful at all times with guests and fellow employees alike
  • Ensure that all Watersports & Fishing equipment machinery & vessels are well maintained and presented to a high standard at all times. Immediately report any defects, problems, or maintenance requirements to the Watersports Assistant Manager

 

What we need from you

  • QUALIFICATION: Current and valid Master V / Master 24 certificate of competency
  • QUALIFICATION: Current and valid MED II or higher certificate of competency
  • QUALIFICATION: Active First Aid qualification, or one be in training within 3 months of commencement.
  • Communication skills – guests and staff will need to come to you with concerns as well as compliments, so you’ll be easy to talk to
  • Your problem-solving skills will turn issues into opportunities so every guest leaves with great memories
  • Have an understanding of nautical terms, procedures and related functions
  • Understand required documentation and legislation relevant to the business and area of operation.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • A thorough understanding of QLD WHS acts and regulations applicable to safe vessel operations
  • You will be familiar with AMSA regulations and how these relate to keeping vessels in safe operation and meet all AMSA requirements in the event of an inspection
  • You will have knowledge of duty of care and how Occupational Health & Safety legislation, policies and procedures impact on the resort
  • Experience - ideally you’ll have spent at least one year in a similar position and have experience in a Marine environment and be familiar with marine operations.
